Book Review Policy

Please read carefully as there have been recent changes in my Book Review Policy.

We are not accepting Steampunk, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, or YA at this time unless for escalated review!

Thank you for your interest in having your book spotlighted on the Sparkin Arkie. I am currently accepting most books for review from authors, publishers, and publicists. Please note that I do not guarantee turn-around-times, nor can I guarantee reviews will be performed at all, given the volume of requests I receive. Pro Bono reviews may take up to four weeks for completion. Escalated reviews can be requested, and are turned around within two weeks. However, Escalated Reviews are subject to fees and must be submitted directly to me (vs emailed to me via any of my friends’ sites). Forward a copy of your book via U.S. Mail to 19800 McPherson Road, Mabelvale, AR 72103, ATTN: Escalated Book Review. Include a check or Money Order made payable to D. Morrissey in the amount of $250.00. Your review will appear on the Sparkie Arkie website within two weeks. Books will not be returned following review.

Self-published books are welcome here!

And, while I do not typically have a list of preferred genres, since starving young artists come in all shapes and sizes with many different tastes, I’m afraid I have to call “Uncle” on the following:

* Steampunk
* Science Fiction
* Fantasy
* YA

As you may have guessed, we’re behind! Hopefully, we’ll be caught up soon. But, for now, we’re unable to accept any additional submissions for these genres. Check back often to see our progress!

Also, while I am very open-minded and difficult to shock (I am an Erotica author, after all), I will say that even I can get offended by some things. And, should that happen (it never has, by the way), I will notify you in writing that no review is forthcoming, nor is any refund. So, consider carefully before you submit.

Notes: – I will read books that are part of a series. But, I ask that you send me the other books in the series, as well, so I can read them in order. I prefer ebooks, but will review paperback and hardback if requested. You may submit any paperbacks or hardbacks to me via U.S. mail or overnight mail, but it must be on your dime. I do not return books that I’ve read and reviewed unless there is a postage-paid, self-addressed envelope included with the submission.

Review Requests:

If you would like to request a review, please complete and submit the form below. If I accept your novel, it does not guarantee that I will post the review on the Sparkin Arkie.

I do not review every book requested. I will notify you if I intend to review your work. I do not guarantee that my review will be positive. You will get my honest feedback and opinion on the book – no sugar-coating, and no beating around the bush. Although you may be disappointed with a poor review, do not be discouraged. Take the criticism for what it’s worth – constructive feedback. Apply it or disregard it, as you choose, when you write your next book.

In the event you receive a “less than stellar” review, fear not! Even when my review is unfavorable, I WILL always say something good about it.

You should know up-front that I do not work for the NY Times or any other notable book reviewing entity. I am, most generally, not paid to critique books (with the exception of Escalated Reviews). I am also not a professional book reviewer, although I am professional in my book reviews. I am a regular Jane who loves to read and write. And, if my written opinions help other authors, I’m happy to share them.

Most importantly, I am always respectful toward other authors and their books, even if I do not particularly care for the work. Please show me that same courtesy in return.

Sparkin Arkie Reviews:

– Some reviews will be posted on the Sparkin Arkie, some will not. Posts are subject to availability, and the capacity of the reviewer, and will generally include the following:

  • Book Cover Art
  • Publication Details, including:
  • Genre
  • ISBN
  • Page Length
  • Artwork (if the book contains any)
  • My Personal Rating (the best of which is an ArkenStar)

Cross-Posting of Reviews:

I sometimes cross-post my reviews on Goodreads, LibraryThing, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble. If you would like your review posted elsewhere, let me know in advance and I will consider.

FTC Disclosure: In accordance with new FTC guidelines regarding endorsements and testimonials for bloggers, readers should know that most all of the books I review on my site are provided to me for free by the publisher or author of the book. All books are sent to me for an objective review; therefore, my review may or may not be positive. I do not receive monetary compensation for writing a review, unless the request is for an Escalated Review. I will make known in such reviews if I received the book for free. If you have any questions about this disclaimer or the FTC guideline, please feel free to contact me.

Sparkin Arkie Rating System:

  • 1 = Arkansas Pole Cat (Pretty much stinks. Scrap the whole thing and start over.)
  • 2 = Hillbilly Hound Dog (Didn’t get very excited. Had a hard time staying awake.)
  • 3 = Diet Mountain Dew (It’s good. But, the real Mountain Dew is a whole lot better.)
  • 4 = A whole litter of puppies (Simply Fantastic!)
  • 5 = The ArkenStar (It don’t get no better than this!)

Book Review Request Form:

If you would like for me to review your book, please complete and submit the form below. I will do my best to respond to every submission; however, I am not able to honor each and every request (I do have a real life I must attend to, as well). If I am able to review your book, I will contact you and let you know as soon as I can.

Thank you again for visiting the Sparkin Arkie, and I look forward to reading with you!
